Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. is a nonprofit, community based; Indigenous-led human services organization that provides a range of Indigenous identified programs and services that focus on the wholeness, wellness and that builds on the strengths and resilience of Indigenous People.
The Opportunity
The Winnipeg School Division (WSD) Systems Navigator offer schools and students a direct link to the supports available at the Youth Huddle sites. They are a direct resource and contact for School Support Teams – including Elder, Principals, Vice Principals, School Counsellors, IERTs/Resource Teachers, Clinicians, Community/Intercultural Support Workers, Indigenous Graduation Support Teachers, other support staff. They are also a direct support for our school community parents, guardians and family members.
Ka Ni Kanichihk’s Huddle site brings multiple health and community service partners together to provide easy-to-find, inclusive and welcoming wrap-around supports to Manitobans aged 12 to 29 and to their families. Huddle sites bridge Indigenous and Western models of health care, employment and mental health and addictions services to better serve diverse youth and their communities.
What You Will Be Doing….
- Supporting school communities and caregivers to access resources in the areas of counselling, mental health and addictions, employment services, and primary medical care by bridging school, community and home
- Directly linking the Huddle services with Winnipeg School Division school support teams
- Ongoing communication and education to Winnipeg School Division Support teams on Huddle Services and an active part of the communication strategy (website, social media platforms, newsletters, staff meetings, meet the teacher) to ensure all WSD school communities and caregivers are aware of the Service Navigation Specialist and the Huddles
- Presenting information within Winnipeg Schools Division, and engaging students on available services and supports
- Collaborating with all levels of Winnipeg School Division administration, departments and school communities to identify needs
- Creating satellite Huddle sites in Winnipeg School Division schools
- Identifying and connecting with previously established youth-run school leadership groups (GSAs, Sources of Strength groups, cultural groups)
- Working within families and community systems as required to consult and navigate supports
- Networking with the Huddles and Winnipeg School Division to eliminate barriers to services; (including transportation, hours of operation)
- Collecting data on service navigation interventions, connecting with students, families and schools, and measuring outcomes and impact from service delivery model.
Who You Are:
- Experienced and informed on the education system and working with children, youth and families
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in inclusive and diverse environments with multiple systems and collateral agencies involved
- Knowledgeable on community resources such as supports for youth mental health and addictions
- Confident in working alongside families and communities from a human-centered approach
- Able to identify, assess and coordinate needs and gaps within services and systems
- Detail oriented with data collection and able to measure impact of service delivery
- Strong understanding of harm reduction, trauma-informed approaches offered within a culturally safe environment
- Effective and clear written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively
- Have knowledge in Indigenous traditions and Cultural beliefs
You Have:
- Post-Secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience within community health, youth engagement, counselling, psychology, mental health, or related social services training
- Two (2+) years’ experience working with vulnerable youth
- A valid Manitoba Driver’s License, clear drivers abstract and reliable access to a vehicle
- Experience working from a harm reductive, culturally safe lens
- Understanding of wraparound and community-centered approach as well as trauma-informed practices
- Ethical principles, along with commitment to staff and participant confidentiality
- Commitment to cultural reclamation practice and traditional healing practices
- Are prepared to work 40 hours a week with flexible hours
- A recent (as of the past 6 months) Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector, and Child Abuse Registry Check;
