Ka Ni Kanichihk is seeking new Council members!
We are currently looking to fill two voting positions and one youth representative position.
Ka Ni Kanichihk is a charitable non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Council that has maintained a majority Indigenous representation for the past 23 years, with a minimum of 75% Indigenous members and the remainder being Indigenous allies.
Our Council members bring a wide range of skills, education, and experiences, with strong connections to both the urban Indigenous community in Winnipeg and ties to home communities in other territories.

We provide Indigenous-led and focused programs and services that promote well-being and build on the strengths of Indigenous peoples. We support individuals in their journeys to build healthy relationships and create a sustainable future for our community.

· Passionate Indigenous person or Indigenous ally with a commitment to our community
· Available to meet quarterly as needed
· Prepared to actively support the needs of the organization
Membership Eligibility:
There are six categories of membership:
- Regular Members: Regular members are the members of the Council plus any other persons the Council may accept into Regular membership. Regular members will be at least 18 years old and be of Indigenous heritage. Indigenous membership will be maintained at 75%. This membership welcomes gender diverse and 2SLGBTQQIA+ relatives.
- Associate Members: Associate members shall be comprised of non-Indigenous relatives, respecting gender equity and diversity, as the Council in its discretion determines. People of non-Indigenous heritage will be comprised of 25% voting members.
- Elder Members: An Elder or Elder(s) will be appointed by the Council.
- Youth Members (two positions): Indigenous youth under the age of 18 who are interested in learning about governance may be appointed as non-voting members of the Council. Indigenous youth aged 18 to 29 may be appointed as a regular voting member.
- Invited Guests: Invited guests shall be representatives or staff persons as needed.
- Honorary Members: Council members who have completed three consecutive three-year terms may continue to participate in Ka Ni Kanichihk’s Council in a non-voting capacity.
Terms of Office:
The terms of office for all Council members, excluding Elders, shall be three years in duration. A Council member may serve for three consecutive terms. After serving three consecutive terms, a member shall stand down for a full year before being eligible for reappointment to Council.
Council members’ terms are staggered to avoid all terms expiring in the same year.
Meetings of Council:
The Council shall meet four times per year at a time, date, and location determined by Council.
