Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. is a nonprofit, community based, Indigenous-led human services organization that provides a range of Indigenous identified programs and services focusing on wholeness, wellness, and building on the strengths and resilience of the Indigenous People.

The Opportunity:

As the Program Coordinator, you work from your heart and are a highly compassionate, skilled, and creative leader with a passion for supporting families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited Beings. You are dedicated to ending violence, using an anti-oppressive, human-rights oriented analysis to understand Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirited beings and their experiences with all forms of violence. You know from personal experience that reclaiming Indigenous cultural practices is a foundation for coping with complex grief and trauma, and you are committed to healing and wellness. You are also committed to culturally safe practices and the decolonization of trauma-informed care. You are a successful systems advocate and you are able to assist families in accessing community resources and supports. You can see the strength in all people, and support people in their journey to see that strength in themselves.

What You Will Be Doing…

  • Managing the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the project
  • Report writing, data collection, budget management
  • Supervising and supporting a team of professionals
  • Providing therapeutic, individual, family, and group sessions
  • Creating opportunities for members to heal from complex trauma and complicated grief within a culturally safe and supportive environment
  • Identifying and engaging with Knowledge Keepers to ensure families have access to a broad range of ceremonial practices and/or western therapeutic modalities and supports

You Have:

  • A valid Manitoba driver’s license, clear driver’s abstract, and access to a vehicle
  • A recent (as of the past six months) Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector, and Child Abuse Registry Check completed
  • A University degree or certification in a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant post-secondary education, experience, and training
  • An understanding of Indigenous economic, cultural, and political environments
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent communication, both written and oral, and professionalism
  • An understanding of wrap-around and community-centered approaches as well as trauma-informed practices
  • Ethical principles, along with a commitment to staff and participant confidentiality
  • A commitment to cultural reclamation and traditional healing practices
  • Prepared to work 40 hours a week with flexible hours
  • Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, First Aid, CPR, and Food Handlers (not required, but considered an asset)
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office 360 suite
