The Opportunity:

As the People and Culture Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our Human Resources department. You will act as the primary administrative support, ensuring the smooth execution of HR processes and helping foster a workplace environment that honors indigenous traditions, trauma-informed practices, and harm reduction principles. This role requires a high degree of organization, attention to detail, confidentiality and professionalism, with the ability to build strong working-relationships with multiple stakeholders.

What You Will Be Doing…

  • Manage daily administrative tasks, including answering emails, scheduling meetings, and providing general support to the HR team
  • Maintain and organize employee files, ensuring they are up-to-date, accurate, and confidential
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation related to HR initiatives and projects
  • Support the full recruitment cycle, from pre-screening candidates to setting up interviews, conducting references checks, and assisting in orientation sessions
  • Coordinate the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring all documents and required security checks are complete
  • Manage recruitment records, ensuring proper documentation and compliance
  • Prepare, draft, review HR-related documents such as offer letters, employment contracts, and policy manuals/handbooks
  • Coordinate and assist with staff informational events, training and development
  • Assist in Payroll and Benefits administration by collecting and providing relevant information
  • Perform audits of vacation, security checks, and benefit data
  • Assist in off-boarding, preparing letters and information as required
  • Assist in the implementation of HR initiatives that promote mental health and well-being, including access to culturally appropriate support services and resources

Who You Are:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse individuals and communities
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive employee information and understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality in all HR processes
  • Knowledge of indigenous culture and traditions, with a commitment to cultural sensitivity, and inclusion
  • Creative and resourceful in your approach to improve processes, integrate feedback, and pivot to challenges
  • A collaborative team player who can take the initiative, problem-solve, and propose solutions 

You Have…

  • Post-Secondary degree, diploma or certification in Human Resources or a related field
  • 2+ years administrative experience within a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in the non-profit sector or community-based organizations is an asset
  • Knowledge of Employment Standards, alongside employment and labour laws
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint), experience with Payworks is considered an asset
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is required
  • Satisfactory completion of recent (as of the last 6 months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search; Child Abuse Registry Check; Adult Abuse Registry check
