Medicine Bear Counselling, Support and Elder Services – Community Family Information Liaison
Full-time position (40 hours/week)
Salary Range: $50,000-$55,000

The Opportunity:
The Community Family Information Liaison will be responsible for assisting families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited Beings within the Medicine Bear Counselling, Support and Elder Services program. The successful candidate will provide general information and guidance regarding the Criminal Justice System, short-term counselling, risk assessments, safety planning, and referrals to community programs as required. You will work closely with the families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited Beings, community agencies, and government departments to ensure families’ questions about their loved one(s) are answered and to ensure families receive comprehensive support and referrals with both western and traditional resources.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Travelling extensively throughout First Nations and rural communities (south of the 53rd parallel) in Manitoba
- Providing trauma-informed, culturally safe support to MMIWG2S* families
- Effective communication with governmental departments and community agencies
- Engaging with and following up with families connected to the Medicine Bear program to ensure their needs are met
- Demonstrating a deep understanding of topical and historical Indigenous economic, cultural, and political environments
- Using your advanced knowledge and understanding surrounding the effects of unresolved loss, trauma, and grief
- Assisting in mediation and conflict management
- Collecting statistical information and performing thorough record keeping and data entry
Who You Are:
As the Community Family Information Liaison, you are:
- Excellent in both oral and written communication skills
- Culturally competent and well-versed in Indigenous traditional healing modalities
- Detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated
- A proficient multi-tasker with the ability to pivot with participant and program needs
- A team player who demonstrates flexibility and adaptability
- Comfortable with program facilitation and presentations
- Experienced in providing therapeutic, culturally-supportive resources to people experiencing grief
You Have:
- University Degree in a related field and three (3) years’ experience working in the Indigenous community, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with a successful program or program coordination
- Food Handlers’ Certificate is an asset
- Intimate knowledge surrounding the topic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited Beings within Canada
- Demonstrable short-term crisis and ongoing counselling skills
- Proven expertise in applying an anti-oppressive framework, and demonstration of keen cultural competence
- Strong listening, interpersonal, and crisis intervention skills
- Effective stress management and project management skills to meet time constraints
- Experience facilitating sharing/healing circles and knowledge of traditional healing practices
- Satisfactory completion of recent (as of the last six months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check
- Current Emergency First Aid Certificate and CPR is an asset
- Mental Health First Aid and ASIST training is an asset
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License and daily access to a vehicle is required
