The Opportunity
We are looking for a Mentor to join our Kistesimaw “Eldest Brother” Program. This program supports boys under 12 who may be at risk of coming into contact with the law. Through positive mentorship, advocacy, cultural connection, and recreation, the Mentor helps children build confidence and stay connected to safe, supportive pathways.
This is a part-time position (20 hours per week) where you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young boys and their families. If you are passionate about supporting young Indigenous boys and walking with them on a good path, we would love to hear from you!
What You Will Be Doing….
- Being a role model and positive influence for boys under 12
- Supporting children, families and caregivers through school-based and community activities
- Planning and leading fun, safe, and engaging recreation and cultural activities
- Offering one-on-one mentorship and support to participants
- Recruiting participants into the program and helping them stay connected
- Providing safe rides for participants to and from activities
- Keeping track of activities, writing notes, and sharing updates with the team
- Helping ensure traditional knowledge is part of the program
- Working with families, schools, and community partners to support the child
Who You Are:
- A mentor who understands the positive role men can play in boys’ lives
- Active, caring, and ready to participate in recreational and cultural activities
- Able to build strong relationships with children and families
- Organized and able to plan, prep, and run activities
- Skilled in keeping clear notes and reports
- Knowledgeable about Indigenous cultures and committed to including them in your work
- Someone who understands child development and trauma-informed practice
- Respectful, ethical, and committed to confidentiality
You Have:
- Relevant education or a mix of education and mentorship experience
- 1–2 years’ experience working with children (under 12)
- Experience leading group activities with children
- Ability to support children in recreation, school, and community settings
- Physical ability to participate in active games and activities
- Understanding of wraparound supports and community-centered care
- Commitment to cultural reclamation and traditional healing practices
- Flexibility to work evenings and Saturdays as needed
- Clear Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check (within last 6 months)
- Valid Driver’s License and access to reliable vehicle
