About the Role
Medicine Children’s Lodge Daycare is looking for a caring, organized, and supportive Assistant Director to help lead our childcare centre. This role works closely with the Daycare Director to support the daily operations of the centre and ensure children, families, and staff feel welcomed, safe, and informed.
The Assistant Director helps to guide staff, support daycare programming, assist on administrative tasks, and ensure that our daycare continues to meet all childcare licensing standards. This role plays an important part in maintaining a positive learning environment where children can grow, explore, and thrive.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys both working directly with children and supporting staff and operations behind the scenes.
What You Will Be Doing
- Assist the Daycare Director with the day-to-day operations of the childcare centre
- Respond to phone calls, parent inquiries, and general daycare questions
- Help ensure classrooms have the supplies and resources they need
- Assist with administrative tasks required to maintain a licensed childcare program
- Help communicate updates and important information to staff and families
- Provide guidance and support to educators throughout the day
- Help maintain proper child-to-staff ratios in all rooms (Infants 1:4, Preschool 1:8)
- Assist with staff coordination and scheduling as needed
- Support positive teamwork and communication among staff
- Experience working with Circle of Security framework is considered an asset
- Participate in weekly meetings with the Director to review staffing needs, child development concerns, and program improvements
- Observe and document children’s development and interests
- Support the staff to plan activities that support children’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development
- Support the Educators and CCA’s in each room to create learning activities such as storytelling, games, songs, early math, and literacy
- Promote inclusive and culturally respectful programming that reflects children’s diverse backgrounds
- Supervise ECE’s in Training or CCA’s in Training in the classroom environment
- Use the centre’s behaviour management policies to guide children’s behaviour
- Support staff with emergency procedures, fire drills, and safety protocols
- Report incidents, accidents, or safety concerns according to centre policies

Qualifications
- Early Childhood Education ECE II or III certification
- Experience working in a licensed daycare or childcare centre
- Knowledge of childcare licensing regulations and safety standards
- Experience supporting staff or assisting with team coordination
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
- Current First Aid and CPR Level C
- Commit to Kids training
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
- Child and Adult Abuse Registry Check
- Accessible Customer Service certificate
