About the Role
Medicine Children’s Lodge Daycare is looking for a caring and organized Daycare Cook to prepare healthy meals and snacks for the children in our care. This role is an important part of creating a warm, welcoming environment where children feel supported and nourished throughout their day.
The Daycare Cook is responsible for planning and preparing nutritious meals, ensuring food safety standards are followed, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen. You will work closely with daycare staff to make sure children’s dietary needs, allergies, and cultural food practices are respected. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys cooking, working with children, and contributing to a positive childcare environment.
What You Will Be Doing
- Preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children each day
- Planning weekly menus that support healthy child development
- Following food safety and sanitation guidelines
- Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen space
- Monitoring food supplies and assisting with grocery orders
- Ensuring dietary restrictions and allergies are safely accommodated
- Working with daycare staff to support smooth meal and snack times, and support childcare ratios as needed
- Supporting a welcoming, respectful environment for children and staff
- Support staff with emergency procedures, fire drills, and safety protocols
- Report incidents, accidents, or safety concerns according to centre policies
Who You Are
We are looking for someone who is passionate about providing healthy nutrition for young children.
You are someone who (is):
- Enjoys cooking and preparing meals for others
- Organized and able to manage a kitchen space independently
- Understands the importance of food safety and cleanliness
- Attentive to children’s dietary needs and allergies
- Reliable and able to manage multiple tasks during busy times
- Works well with others and communicate clearly with staff
Qualifications
- Experience working in a kitchen, daycare, school, or community program
- Experience preparing meals for groups is considered an asset
- Knowledge of basic food safety and nutrition
- Food Handler Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced childcare environment
- Lifting children or supplies up to 30–40 lbs
- Sitting on the floor, kneeling, bending, and engaging in children’s activities
- Standing and walking for extended periods
