Project Overview
The Kôhkums who lead the Lodge identified matriarchal leadership as a foundation of our work and developed this proposal to support their work and the work of the lodge to evolve this concept. Through the GLOWS grant with CAAN, a one-year project was funded. The overall goal of this project is to create an intentional matriarchal governance and leadership structure based on the organic evolution of our sexual wellbeing Lodge. This project will provide the time and resources to sit in ceremony with Elders and Knowledge Keepers, to return to the land, to seek the language that makes meaning of our work, to learn from other communities about what matriarchal leadership looks like, and to formally describe and embody these teachings to improve the sexual health and wellbeing of our relatives. This project seeks to learn more about how our nations have used our languages to describe and enact the matriarchal leadership that has evolved in our communities. We want to learn about and describe some of these ways, including what has emerged for us since starting the Lodge, and identify the core components of matriarchal leadership and governance that shapes best practices in sexual health for our relatives.
