Mushkowzee Ikwe (Strong Woman’s) Project – Coordinator



Full Time (40 hours per week)
Hourly Wage: $22.00 to $24.04 per hour

Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. is a nonprofit, community-based, Indigenous-led human services organization that provides a range of Indigenous-identified programs and services that focus on the wholeness, wellness, and building on the strengths and resilience of Indigenous People.

About the Role:

The Mushkowzee Ikwe (Strong Woman’s) Project is a community-based initiative designed to support Indigenous females and non-binary youth (ages 14 to 29) who are at risk of sexual exploitation, sex trafficking, involvement in the justice system, and/or living in poverty. The program provides culturally grounded, holistic supports, including group learning sessions, employment training, academic tutoring, and connections to community resources such as counselling and addiction treatment.

The Coordinator is responsible for the overall implementation, management, and evaluation of The Strong Woman’s Project. This includes overseeing program activities, supporting Mentors, engaging participants, coordinating volunteers, and fostering partnerships with community organizations. The Coordinator will ensure the program remains culturally safe, trauma-informed, and responsive to the needs of participants.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Overseeing and implementing all aspects of the program, ensuring alignment with its mission and objectives
  • Developing and coordinating program activities and participant supports, including traditional learning, life skills workshops, employment training sessions, and mental health resources
  • Recruiting, training, and supporting program mentors and volunteers
  • Maintaining accurate records, data, and program documentation, ensuring confidentiality
  • Preparing reports and funding applications as required
  • Managing the program budget and ensure resources are utilized effectively
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural mentors to provide culturally relevant programming
  • Facilitating intake and assessment processes to identify participants’ strengths, goals, and needs
  • Developing individualized support plans and connect participants with appropriate community resources
  • Fostering relationships with external agencies, service providers, and Indigenous organizations to enhance program offerings
  • Representing the program at community events and networking opportunities

Who You Are:

  • Knowledgeable on systemic barriers affecting Indigenous youth with a passion for providing relevant strengths-based support
  • Experienced working in community-based programs, particularly those focused on harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and holistic wellness
  • Organized, adaptable, and able to build trusting relationships with youth while navigating complex social issues
  • Thrives in program coordination, partnership-building, and advocacy, ensuring that participants receive the culturally grounded and wraparound supports they need
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including Elders, families, and community organizations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries

You Have:

  • Relevant post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Social Innovation and Community Development, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in the non-profit sector or community-based organizations is an asset
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Satisfactory completion of recent (as of the last 6 months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search; Child Abuse Registry Check; Adult Abuse Registry check
  • Valid full Class 5 driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle
