Program Overview

The Social Innovation and Community Development program is delivered on-site and provides graduates with accreditation from Red River College Polytech, delivered in partnership with the Centre for Aboriginal Human Resources (Neeginan College of Applied Technology).

Women will study courses such as Indigenous Knowledge and Leadership, Communication Strategies, Financial Literacy, Foundations of Social Innovation, and Reconciling our Economic Futures – in preparation for a career in community development. There will also be a four week unpaid work practicum. The goal of the program is to support adult learners on their personal and professional journey, by developing strengths and overcoming barriers.

All educational programs are designed to create a safe environment that provides culturally authentic opportunities for women to become connected to their history, themselves, their community, and their nation. Women are provided with learning opportunities to become self-directing and begin goal setting as well as discover other opportunities.

Kaelei Knutson- Social Innovation and Community Development Student

Participant Testimonial by Kaelei Knutson

“I loved the sense of community that was created by both the instructors and classmates. It was reassuring knowing we had each other’s backs, and I think that’s what got me through the school year.

The support throughout the program exceeded my expectations. The instructors were especially understanding about my parenting duties and even welcomed my son in with open arms if something ever came up. It helped having the Medicine Children’s Lodge daycare on-site, being able to know my son was nearby. This design made it possible for me to focus on my studies while still being a mother.

This program gave me the confidence, tools, and knowledge to move forward in my education journey. Not only did it help with my educational development, but it also helped me build a stronger connection with myself and my culture.”
