Kitchen Helper – Summer Term  



Wage: $16.00/hour

Full Time Position (35 – 40 hours/week)

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Summer Kitchen Helper Student to support our community kitchen and food programs. This role is a great opportunity for students who enjoy working with people, learning about food preparation, and contributing to a welcoming environment where community members can gather, connect, and share meals.

Working alongside experienced kitchen staff, you will help prepare and serve nutritious meals, maintain a clean and organized kitchen, and support food-related activities and community events.

No previous kitchen experience is required—we are looking for students who are eager to learn, work hard, and contribute to a positive team environment.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Kitchen Helper, you may:

  • Assist with meal preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning food
  • Support the preparation and serving of meals, snacks, and refreshments
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment
  • Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing food and kitchen supplies
  • Support inventory organization and stock rotation
  • Help set up and clean up food service areas and community events
  • Follow food handling, health, and safety procedures
  • Assist with community feasts, cultural gatherings, and special events as needed
  • Support staff with general kitchen and program-related tasks
  • Work respectfully with staff, volunteers, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members

  • Are currently attending school and returning in the fall
  • Are between the ages of 16 – 29 years
  • Have a positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Demonstrate respect, kindness, and professionalism
  • Are dependable, responsible, and punctual
  • Can work independently and as part of a team
  • Are comfortable working in a variety of settings, including indoor and outdoor environments
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Are willing to support different programs and projects as organizational needs arise
  • Have Criminal Record Check, Child and Adult Abuse Registry check completed within 6 months
