Family Information Liaison Unit – Facilitator
Hourly wage: $20.00 – $22.00
Full-time position (40 hours/week)
Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, with exception of Thursdays 11:00 am – 7:00 pm

Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. is a nonprofit, community-based, Indigenous-led human services organization that provides a range of Indigenous-identified programs and services that focus on the wholeness, wellness, and building on the strengths and resilience of Indigenous People.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for someone who will walk alongside families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited Beings (MMIWG2S+).
In this role, you will support families as they navigate grief, unanswered questions, and systems that can often feel overwhelming. You will help families understand how the Criminal Justice System works, connect them to counselling and supports, assist with safety planning, and link them to both traditional and western resources.
You will work closely with families, community agencies, Elders, and government departments to make sure families feel heard, supported, and informed. This role is about relationships, advocacy, and ensuring families are not walking this journey alone.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Travelling to First Nations and rural communities throughout Manitoba (south of the 53rd parallel)
- Providing trauma-informed, culturally safe support to MMIWG2S+ families
- Helping families understand processes within the justice system
- Supporting programming activities and workshops
- Connecting families to community programs, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and other healing supports
- Communicating with government departments and community agencies on behalf of families
- Following up with families to ensure their needs are being met
- Keeping clear and respectful records and collecting required program data
- Holding space for grief, unresolved loss, and trauma in a compassionate and grounded way
Who You Are:
- Communicates clearly and respectfully, both in writing and in person
- Understands Indigenous histories and the ongoing impacts of colonization
- Knowledgeable about traditional healing practices and cultural ways of being
- Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple responsibilities
- Able to adapt when situations change
- Comfortable speaking in groups and facilitating presentations or sharing circles
- Experience supporting people who are grieving or navigating trauma
- Approach your work with humility, compassion, and a strong community lens
You Have:
- Training in a related field and at least two (2) years of experience working in Indigenous communities
- OR a combination of education and experience in program facilitation or community support
- Strong understanding of MMIWG2S+ issues in Canada
- Experience providing crisis support and short-term counselling
- Experience working from an anti-oppressive and culturally grounded framework
- Strong listening, relationship-building, and crisis intervention skills
- Experience facilitating healing or sharing circles and working with traditional practices
- Ability to manage timelines and follow through on commitment
- Satisfactory completion of recent (as of the last six months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check
- Current Emergency First Aid Certificate and CPR is an asset
- Mental Health First Aid and ASIST training is an asset
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is an asset
