Please Consider Supporting Ka Ni Kanichihk Programs Today
Ka Ni Kanichihk currently operates 15 different programs, each designed to meet the unique needs of our relatives. Among the programs we celebrated this past summer were our two Education programs – Social Innovation and Community Development and Honouring Gifts – as they hosted their annual graduation for students who completed the nine-month program. Both programs are designed to help Indigenous women pursue education and build the skills that support employability and life beyond the classroom.
The Social Innovation and Community Development program is delivered on-site and provides graduates with accreditation from Red River College Polytech, in partnership with the Centre for Aboriginal Human Resources (Neeginan College of Applied Technology). Women in the program study courses such as Indigenous Knowledge and Leadership, Communication Strategies, Financial Literacy, Foundations of Social Innovation, and Reconciling Our Economic Futures, preparing them for a career in community development.
Honouring Gifts provides Indigenous mothers between the ages of 18 and 29 with the tools and skills to pursue further education or employment and support their families. Participants develop their skills through training, employment, and education; gain exposure to a wide variety of workplaces, careers, and educational options through an on-site work internship; and learn how to access the support systems available to them. Along the way, participants have the opportunity to earn certifications in areas such as Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Food Handling, First Aid/CPR, Manitoba Service Excellence, and Suicide Intervention.
All of our education programs are designed to create a safe environment offering culturally authentic opportunities for women to connect with their history, themselves, their community, and their nation.
This September, our Education team is gearing up for another successful school year, with registration nearly full.
