The Mino Pimatisiwin Sexual Wellness Lodge Hosts Annual Heart Medicine Event

On March 20th, our Mino Pimatisiwin Sexual Wellness Lodge hosted their annual Heart Medicine event at the Viscount Gort Hotel- bringing together women and Two-Spirit individuals for a day rooted in Indigenous voices, cultural connection, and shared learning.

The morning opened with a Pipe ceremony, starting the event in a good way. Attendees then heard from keynote speakers Marcia Anderson and Kim Anderson, who shared powerful views on matriarchy, identity, and the roles of women within Indigenous cultures.

Reflecting on the importance of reconnecting with inner wisdom and strength, Dr. Marcia Anderson shared, “One of my core beliefs is that we actually do all have a matriarch within. And part of our work, part of our healing journey, is to reconnect to that matriarch within and the wisdom that it offers us.”

Within many Indigenous cultures- and within Ka Ni Kanichihk- we honour matriarchal teachings that recognize women as leaders, knowledge keepers, caregivers, and decision-makers. These teachings celebrate the strength, wisdom, and guidance that women bring to their families, communities, and future generations. Throughout the event, guests heard personal stories of reconnecting with the matriarch within and explored the many ways matriarchal leadership, strength, and care can be expressed and embodied.

Following the morning sessions, guests enjoyed lunch accompanied by entertainment from the Ivan Flett Memorial Jiggers. The celebration continued in the afternoon with more dance and drag performances that filled the room with energy and excitement.

The afternoon offered a variety of hands-on activities, including manicures, beading, sticker making, and a photobooth- providing opportunities for creativity and connection.
