Velma’s House- A New Home, Expanded Support

Ka Ni Kanichihk’s Velma’s House began its transition into a new space in January 2026, marking an important milestone in expanding support for the community. While the move was underway, renovations continued to ensure the space was comfortable, functional, and safe for relatives. As of spring of 2026, the team has officially settled in, and the new location allows them to welcome and support even more individuals.
The new space is a significant upgrade from the previous location, increasing capacity from 15 beds to 42 beds– creating more opportunities for rest, safety, and care. Additional improvements include two showers available for 24/7 use, helping to better meet the needs of those accessing the space.
The new location also features a doctor’s office, a cultural room, and a warming lodge- an especially meaningful addition during Winnipeg’s cold winter months.
