Join Ka Ni Kanichihk’s Council and Finance Committee



Help strengthen Indigenous-led governance and community impact

Ka Ni Kanichihk is seeking a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) to join our Council (Board of Directors) and Finance Committee. This is an opportunity to contribute your financial expertise to one of Manitoba’s leading Indigenous organizations while supporting community-led programs and services that strengthen Indigenous peoples, families, and communities.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about Indigenous leadership, sound financial stewardship, and strategic governance. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced Council and Finance Committee members and will be mentored by the current Finance Committee Chair, with the intention of assuming the role of Finance Committee Chair in the future.

Council Overview

Our Council provides strategic governance and oversight of the organization. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing governance and strategic leadership in alignment with Ka Ni Kanichihk’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Appointing the Council Co-Chairs and members to standing committees.
  • Approving and maintaining organizational by-laws and governance policies.
  • Hiring, supporting, and evaluating the Executive Director, including approving annual performance objectives.
  • Working with management to establish and approve the organization’s strategic plan, annual business plan, and long-term priorities.
  • Monitoring organizational performance, financial sustainability, and strategic outcomes.
  • Ensuring financial accountability, regulatory compliance, and effective organizational risk management.

The Council meets quarterly, with occasional additional meetings or strategic planning sessions throughout the year.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee supports Council by providing oversight of the organization’s financial stewardship and sustainability. Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and recommending annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitoring financial performance and reviewing quarterly financial statements.
  • Supporting sound financial management, internal controls, and fiscal accountability.
  • Providing oversight of the annual external audit and maintaining relationships with the external auditors.
  • Reviewing treasury, investments, reserves, and financial policies.
  • Monitoring financial risks and regulatory compliance.
  • Making recommendations to Council on financial matters and long-term sustainability.

The Finance Committee meets quarterly, generally prior to each Council meeting.

Who We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • CPA designation in good standing.
  • Indigenous identity or allyship and a strong commitment to Indigenous community leadership.
  • Senior financial management, accounting, auditing, or governance experience.
  • An understanding of financial oversight, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Experience serving on a board, finance committee, or governance body is considered an asset.
  • A collaborative leadership style and the ability to contribute to strategic discussions.
  • A commitment to reconciliation, community-centered leadership, and culturally grounded decision-making.
